BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANOTHER trophy was added to Konris Maynard’s already filled ‘Trophy Case’ after he was declared winner of the 2010/2011 Road March with his latest hit – ‘Unstoppable Force'.

The announcement was made today (Jan. 3) on the airwaves by Chairman of the National Committee Clement ‘Monarch’ O’Garro while Las Lap, the final event annual of this year’s Carnival activities, was in progress.

The only ‘four-peat’ calypsonian of the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis was awarded 25 points for his song, which had also recently won him the Soca Monarch title.

The Road March title, which is normally judged on J’Ouvert morning and Parade Day, was keenly contested among Konris, Small Axe, Grand Masters and the Nu Vybes International Bands.

However, Maynard beat the ‘three-peat’ defending champion Grand Masters into second place by two points with its ‘Under The Sea’ song, while Small Axe with the ‘Rum Song’ placed third and was followed by Nu Vybes International with ‘Sugar Mas’.

This was the first time in 15 years that an individual had won the Road March title.

The recently-crowned National Senior Calypso Monarch, King Pungwa, had won the Road March title in 1995 with ‘Stranded Night’. However, since then, the bands took over and title was shared among Nu Vybes, Grand Masters and Small Axe.

Many people express surprise in newcomer Red Devils not being awarded Best J’Ouvert Troupe. This troupe, they claimed, was the largest among the lot, but lost to Mudsunami, which was awarded 149 points.

Red Devils was allotted 136 points while Lime Xtreme Bacchanal gained 127 and GM Addix Under the Sea and Purple Your Way tied on 78 points.

Inferno’s Ship Ahoy All Aboard won the Troupe of the Year award with 710 points while De Calypso Legends (Phunnmakers) took second spot with 683.5 points.
