BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 5TH 2011 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is hailing the 1952 Cuban Revolution as an important milestone in that Caribbean nation’s history.

“As the New Year begins, the world cannot help but marvel at the strides Cuba has made as a developing country: achievement of universal healthcare, provision of free education and a guarantee of basic food rations for everyone, despite the almost half-century old economic, commercial and financial embargo. This is indeed cause for celebration, said Prime Minister Douglas in a congratulatory message to Cuba’s President, His Excellency Raul Castro.

Prime Minister Douglas said Cuba has embraced the cause of the indigent and the disadvantaged and has fought indefatigably for a just world in which people can exercise their right to decide their own path to development.

“On the 52nd Anniversary of its Revolution, the Cuban people will continue to feel a sense of pride for what their country has accomplished and will celebrate with joy and satisfaction a system characterized by its humanism, where the well-being of the people is its preoccupation,” said Dr. Douglas.

He expressed confidence that throughout the coming year, bonds of friendship will be deepened between St. Kitts and Nevis and Cuba and the existing cooperation mechanisms will be strengthened for the mutual advantage of both peoples.

“On behalf of my Government and the people of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis who have  experienced the generosity, warmth and friendship of the Cuban people firsthand through the Miracle Eye initiative and several other cooperative initiatives of your Government, please accept sincere best wishes for all Cubans and long life, good health and happiness for yourself and big brother, Fidel,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
