Hilary Williams | BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 20TH 2006 - A national of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has been inducted into Baruch College, City University of New York, Inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame.
Ms. Hilary Williams, daughter of the late Ogilvie Williams and Mrs. Iris Williams of Fortlands, Basseterre, St. Kitts, was among nine men and women who helped shape the College's athletics programs and fostered its competitive spirit.
During a celebratory dinner at the College's Newman Vertical Campus., Associate Athletic Director, Mr. Ray Rankis, saluted the nine extraordinary student-athletes and administrators, who brought prestige and outstanding sports achievement and who helped shape the College's athletics programs and fostered its competitive spirit since 1968.
Ms. Hilary Williams, who played Women's Basketball, is a 1991 graduate and dean's list student. She graduated from Baruch with a Bachelor's degree in Physcology and from Herbert Leahman College, City University of New York, with a Masters of Science degree in Social Development specialising in Counselling. Ms. Williams is Asssitant Director at a Women's and Children's Christian Ministry in New Jersey and is responsible for the development of the Ministry's curriculum.

Hilary Williams (second from right) in group photo with the other inductees. | She is a two-time CUNYAC MVP and the team's all-time leader in scoring (1,830), rebounding (1,341) and steals (477) and was the first player in school history to record a triple-double. At one time she was the top scorer among both male and female basketball players in the United States.
Ms. Williams is the youngest sister of Nurse Manager and former national netballer, Mrs. Cassandra Bell, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr.
Erasmus Williams; former national netballer, Mrs. Shirmel Williams and former national footballer, Mr. Gerard "Baby" Williams.
The ceremony was witnessed by an elder brother, Alexis Williams, who lives in New York and his son-in-law, Dalma Tonge of Connecticut.
Other inductees were:
Burt Beagle - Baseball & Basketball. Beagle, a 1956 graduate, has served the College over many years as sports information director, baseball coach, basketball statistician and repository of athletics history and folklore.

Hilary Williams delivering her acceptance remarks. | Yvette Forges-Caraballo - Cheerleading & Dance Team. A 1993 graduate who led the Baruch cheerleading squad to 15 championships; she served as the team's choreographer from 1988 to 2002.
Sean McGee - Men's Basketball. A 1996 graduate and a three-time CUNYAC all-star basketball star, who as a junior ranked second in the nation in rebounding (13.8), was named the CUNYAC MVP during his senior season.
Sybil Smith - Women's Basketball & Volleyball. A 1995 graduate, Smith is a three-time basketball and one-time volleyball CUNYAC MVP. She won the 1995 NCAA Division III rebounding title (23.8) and finished second in scoring (21.1).
Rodger Miller - Men's Basketball. A 1985 graduate, Rodger was a four-year starter (1979-83) on the men's basketball team. He became the school's leading scorer with 1,540 career points and owns the all-time record for points in a game (42).
Al Peredo - Fencing Coach & Administrator. Al started the men's and women's fencing program at Baruch. He coached an Olympic foil fencer to the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and to a runner-up spot in the NCAA National Championship. He was chair of the Athletics Department for more than 10 years.
Narces Phanor - Men's Soccer, Volleyball & Basketball. A 1995 graduate, Narces is one of Baruch's greatest all-around athletes. He was the first male athlete to be named a CUNYAC all-star in two sports (soccer and volleyball). In his senior year, he was also a starter on the men's basketball team.
Harvey Jackson - Administrator. For over 30 years, Harvey has been the athlete's best and most influential friend. As director of SEEK transfers and academic counselor, he has been a source of sage advice and guidance to scores of athletes. He also served as Men's Basketball Coach for two years (1976-78).
~~Adz:Right~~President of Baruch College, Kathleen Waldron, said, "I have always believed that academic excellence and athletic prowess go hand in hand, and the recent history of Baruch confirms this. As our students have excelled scholastically, so too have our student-athletes. I believe that the Hall of Fame will create important connections between Baruch's past and its future and stimulate more alumni interest and involvement in the school."
Director of Athletics at Baruch for more than 20 years, Bill Eng, noted the dramatic transformation of the College's athletic facilities since the opening of the Newman Vertical Campus in 2001.
"The inauguration of the Athletics Hall of Fame symbolizes how far we have come from the days when our sports facilities consisted of a single cramped and hard-to-find gymnasium on the 6th floor of 17 Lexington Avenue," said Eng. "Today, our athletics facilities are second to none, and the impact on the morale of our teams can't be measured." |
