Due to the recent death of Irod Smithen a.k.a. Catman or Andy, Police are now encouraging drivers to put into place a designated driver.

Smithen who lives in Downing Street, Sandy Point was driving PA1386 driving along the island's main road from Newton Ground to Sand Point when he collided with a Tamarind Tree causing the fatal accident.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July, 18 at about 12:40 a.m. The district doctor, Dr. Udonton pronounced Smithen as dead and that he suffered from chest and neck injuries along with two broken legs.

The car belonged to Lionel Nisbitt of Cayon who was apparently too tired to drive home and gave Smithen the keys as Nisbitt stayed the night by his girlfriend.

Smithen who died inside of the vehicle was taken out of the vehicle by Fire & Rescue Officers.

A Police officer from the Sandy Point branch spoke openly about the incident and gave advice for future drivers.

"When people go out and lime they need to ensure that they put into place a designated driver or someone who is not too tired to drive them home," the Sandy Point Police officer said.

~~Adz:Right~~"The next time it could be anyone, it could be myself and kids, it could be you who might be caught up in an accident with someone who is intoxicated or too tired."
