BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man was shot last night (Jan. 9) in the vicinity of Greenlands and is currently warded in stable condition at the JNF Hospital.
Reports reaching SKNVibes indicate that Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier of Neverson Street, Newtown was shot at about 8:00 p.m. yesterday while in the company of a friend.
This media house learnt that the 27-year-old was the pillion rider on a friend’s scooter when a masked man, armed with a gun, allegedly attacked them while in the vicinity of Greenlands.
Further information revealed that Cannonier jumped off the scooter and ran in an attempt to evade the gunman; however, while doing so he was shot in the upper region of his left thigh.
On seeing Cannonier was injured, the gunman fled the scene and the owner of the scooter took him to the hospital, where he was treated for his injury.
The police was informed and investigations are underway.
This is the second reported shooting incident in the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis for 2011.
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, while revellers were jamming to the music of the Nu Vybes Band, a shot rang out, and on investigation it was discovered that 21-year-old Audington Cyder of Wades Garden was shot in his lower abdomen.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of Mac Pennies on Cayon Street, Basseterre and Cyder was transported in a private vehicle to the JNF Hospital.
No one has since been held in connection with the incident, but this too is under investigation.
