BASSETERRE St.Kitts, January 11 2011 - The StarMile2.5 Nevis~St Kitts Cross Channel Swim was recently notified that Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine would become a sponsor of this prestigious and popular event for 2011.

Over the past few years there has been an increasing number of Ross students and faculty supporting the event, they are involved as competitors and equally importantly as kayak safety patrollers during the crossing.  The Dean of the school has also participated in the swim in previous years.

“Ross University is excited to be a part of the StarMile 2.5 open water swim, across the channel between St. Kitts and Nevis, as hundreds of our students, faculty and staff have been involved in previous years.   Participation in the Nevis 2.5 mile swim continues to grow each year and we are excited to support the kick-off event for a week of sports, conservation, and social awareness in the Federation,” said David DeYoung, Dean of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Mr X’s Shiggidy Shack has also become a sponsor for the swim.  The boat crew from Mr. X’s will be handling transportation and boat support for the big event.

Now approaching its 9th year of existence, the swim is growing in stature, both regionally and globally, with the race being featured in a growing number of magazines and online articles, along with its inclusion in a new open water swim series based in the Caribbean region.
