BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO men were last night (Jan. 15) admitted to the JNF Hospital after being shot in separate incidents in the eastern and southern corridors of St. Kitts.
The first shooting took place in Sandy Point at about 9:18 p.m. and the second one occurred at approximately 9:50 in Cayon.
Reports reaching SKNVibes state that Xavier Gumbs of The Alley in Sandy Point was shot in the upper region of his body while he was sitting with a friend on the steps leading to the Public Bath near his home.
On arrival in The Alley, this media house saw a number of officers from the Sandy Point Police Station processing the scene, but attempts to gain information from them were futile.
However, a resident in the area said, “Shortly after Xavvie and a friend had returned from further up Sandy Point they were seated on the steps near to the Public Bath chatting. Suddenly the sound of gunfire was heard and he got shot somewhere in his chest or shoulder.”
The resident further said that the perpetrator was not seen because the gunfire came not from the brightly lit Island Main Road, but “from the bushes behind the Public Bath” which is usually dark at night.
SKNVibes was also informed that after being shot, Gumbs ran to Pogson Hospital from where he was transported to the JNF Hospital by ambulance.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that police had stopped a black car some distance away from the crime scene and three men were taken to the Sandy Point Police Station.
The second shooting victim was Lesmond ‘Hagee’ Abbott of Upper Cayon.
Reports indicate that he was shot in the vicinity of the Cayon Police Station and he too was taken by ambulance to the JNF Hospital.
No information was available on the apprehension of any suspect for this incident. However, the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, promised to provide more details on both shootings following preliminary investigations.
