By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – XAVIER GUMBS, a.ka. Slimz, of The Alley, Sandy Point, who was shot Saturday night (Jan. 15) in the vicinity of the Public Bath near his home, said he was “waiting on a bus for something” at the time of the incident.

SKNVibes visited the 19-year-old yesterday (Jan. 17) at the JNF Hospital where he is recovering from a gunshot wound in his upper left shoulder.

Gumbs said that he had arrived at the top of the lane near his home at around 8:55 p.m. and was waiting on a bus for something with a friend. He explained that while waiting, he saw someone peeping from inside the Public Bath and started shooting.

He said that he and his friend ran from the gunfire and took a bus to the Pogson Hospital before being transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital.
    His friend was not shot.

Gumbs said as far as he knows there were no reasons for anyone to shoot at him.
“I don’t know if they took me for somebody else and I don’t have any enemies as far as I know. I’m not in a gang,” Gumbs said.

According to a police press release, the crime scene was processed by officers from the Crime Scene Department and two persons of interest are presently in custody assisting the police with their investigations.

Gumbs was the first of two shooting victims on that night. The second one occurred in the vicinity of Cayon Police Station, where Lesmond ‘Hagee’ Abbott of Upper Cayon was shot in his leg.
