BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEWS coming out of Trinidad and Tobago indicates that a number of Soca sensations have started releasing their tracks in readiness for the twin-island Republic’s 2011 Carnival celebrations, which is touted as the best in the Caribbean.
Some of the new releases were sent to SKNVibes by the promoters and managers of the artistes, and among them is Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez, who recently released a track with her husband Bunji Garlin titled ‘Go Home If Yuh Cyan Tek It’.
The Soca songwriter, recording artiste and performer was the First Runner-up in last year’s International Power Soca Monarch Competition and held the same position in that year’s Groovy Soca Monarch Competition.
‘Go Home If Yuh Cyan Tek It’ speaks about what carnival is all about and is advising individuals to go home if they cannot handle the atmosphere.
Her husband also released a number of tracks, which included ‘Zoom Zoom, ‘Big Blood’, ‘Push Dat’ and ‘Hold A Burn’. He won Trinidad's Soca Monarch Competition on several occasions. He tied with Iwer George for the crown in 2002 with ‘Down in the Ghetto’ and then took it in 2004, 2005 and 2008.
JW & Blaz, who hold the International Power Soca Monarch title, released a track called ‘Together’ on the Coca Cola Riddi’, while International Groovy Soca King Shurwayne Winchester has released several songs - ‘Paparazzi’, ‘We are Number One’ and ‘Jammin’.
A number of pre-activities have already started for the 2011 celebrations which end in early March.
