Canada-based Kittitian releases song titled ‘Broken’

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young Kittitian who resides in Canada has recently released a track titled ‘Broken’ and is hoping his time in that country could help him to push his music to another level.

Rodelle Rawlins, originally of Cayon Village, said ‘Broken’ was penned after reminiscing on his formative years in St. Kitts.

The beat was produced by Jahvid ‘De Magician’ Percival, also of Cayon, and the song was recorded at 420 Studio in Toronto.

“It’s basically me in my younger days playing around, but now I have matured and society denies it. So it clouds the mind of my present lady who thinks I am cheating with another girl, who just does stuff to drive her away. So I am being a man by taking full responsibility and apologising just to show my lady she means the world to me and my past is behind. She is the future. A story depicted from everyday life as society plays a role in every man’s life and choices,” Rawlins explained.

The song has been receiving much airplay on some of the local radio stations, and, according to Rawlins, it is being played in a few clubs in Canada.

The young man, who is about to pursue studies in Culinary Arts, said he is hoping to be the first musical chef from the twin-island Federation to have his name in neon lights in the international music industry.

Rawlins said he is currently working on two more songs. One is titled ‘Why’ and its speaks to violence not only in St. Kitts but the rest of the world, and the other, which he said has not yet been named, is about a love story.

The 21-year-old also completed a six-week programme at the end of 2010 which was organised by the Urban Music Association of Canada (UMAC), where he said he gained many contacts and met some well-established producers in the music industry. He said he also learned some tips on how to market himself and gain a manager.

While living in St. Kitts, Rawlins had made a number of appearances at various pageants serenading the contestants.
