CAMPS VILLAGE, Nevis – A female national of St. Lucia was yesterday afternoon (Jan. 26) found hanging by the neck in her Camps Village home in Nevis and was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Jaya.

Information reaching SKNVibes states that the lifeless body of Celsa Lewis-Jones was discovered at about 4:45 p.m. by her husband, Keith Jones, hanging from a rope attached to a beam in one of their two-bedroom home. It is suspected that she had committed suicide.

The 40-year-old seamstress was described by many as a friendly and courteous individual, who was loved by all members of her community.

“I cannot believe that Celsa is dead. She was a Christian and a regular churchgoer, and I can’t understand what had driven her to commit that act. It is said that you cannot know which part of a house is leaking until you are inside; therefore, she may have had problems and could not have found solutions. I have never known her to be a person to discuss her personal matters with anyone; not even me, though we were friends. But I think, as a Christian, she could have taken her problems to God,” a community member said.

Another member of that community also gave her views on the deceased, declaring that she was the most popular seamstress in the village and was rated as a professional.

“I am shocked...this cannot be true! Only yesterday I went to Celsa to inform her that I want to sew a dress for Valentine’s Day and this afternoon I hear she is dead...I just can’t believe it. She was a professional in her work. That woman had sewn clothes for school children, for pageant and also for weddings. She had a pleasant personality and was a role model in the community, especially as a cricketer and also the manner in which she conducted herself.”

In a press release, President of the Nevis Cricket Association Ronald Powell expressed condolences to Lewis-Jones’ family members, especially to her husband whom he said is a top cyclist on Nevis.

“It’s a sad time. It’s hard to understand but I hope that the family will find solace in the fact that God is still in control and that they can trust him, even during this difficult period,” Powell said.

The release stated that she would be fondly remembered as an exciting hard-hitting batswoman for the St. James’ female cricket team, whose finest knock was in 2009 “when she singlehandedly took away a game from St. George’s team when they were totally in control”.

She was also a member of the Nevis female cricket team but did not participate in the 2010 local tournament.

According to sources, police had conducted investigations at the Jones’ home and are awaiting the results of a post mortem.
