CHARLESTOWN Nevis, January 28th 2011 - Chesney Hughes, the promising Anguillan born county professional who has made a distinct impression already on many West Indian cricket fans, did not make the final cut as the Leeward Islands selectors released a 13 man squad which will represent the Leewards in the first round of matches in the WICB regional tournament.

The Leewards will have their first engagement on the fourth of February when they come up against the English Lions, which bowls off at Warner Park on February fourth.

According to reports received, Hughes originally informed the selectors of his unavailability due to his county contract in the UK but later indicated that he was available for the first two matches. The selectors however, decided not to include him.

The Leewards team will spend a few days together in a camp setting in St.Kitts, just prior to the start of their first match.

    The full squad reads:

Kieran Powell; Montcin Hodge; Tonito Willet; Jaques Taylor; Steve Liburd; Gavin Tonge; Anthony Martin; Devon Thomas; Lionel Baker; Shane Burton; Kelbert Walters, Omari Banks and Justin Athanaze.

Also conspicuous by their absence are: Shane Jeffers and Wilden Cornwall
