Nevis Island Administration Pr
Mr. Collin Tyrell takes the oath to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the local Bar.
    Charlestown Nevis (July 26, 2006) "
It's the end of a long journey but the beginning of another one," Mr. Collin Tyrell said in an interview with the Government Press, moments before he took the oath of Barrister and Solicitor at the High Court in Charlestown.
The former Junior Minister of Community Development, Trade, Industry, Labour, Sports and Culture from 1992 - 1997 in the Nevis Island Administration, Mr. Tyrell said that it was always his desire to be a lawyer.

"Actually I wanted to be a lawyer before I went into politics but I just did not make the step," he said.  "During my political life I decided perhaps to make that move.  I thought it was a better career move.  I think politics is so fickle.  It's really not a secure profession if you can call it a profession at all.  So I thought it would be better for me to seek some professional training."

The brief but significant ceremony took place on July 25th 2006, in Chambers at the High Court in Charlestown, before Her Ladyship, Justice Ianthea Leigertwood-Octave.

Mr. Tyrell's colleague and friend, Mr. Sylvester Anthony presented the motion to Her Ladyship while his cousin and Barrister and Solicitor Mr. Mark Brantley seconded the motion.

Mr. Tyrell, a former law student of the University of Windsor, said that he was previously called to the Ontario Bar in 2003 and had the distinct pleasure of practising at the C Emmanuel Irish Law Office, in Canada.

(l-R) Mr. Mark Brantley, Ms. Nailah Tyrell, Mr. Collin Tyrell, Mr. Sylvester Anthony, Justice Octave, Mr. Morrice Tyrell and Mr. Larkland Richards.
In his acceptance speech, he told the Bar that not only are the standards of practice in Ontario high but the expectations are on the same level.  He however promised to continue the same trend in this jurisdiction saying, "It has served me well, so it's my intention to maintain those standards."

He expressed thanks to his presenter and long standing friend, Mr. Sylvester Anthony, his seconder, Mr. Mark Brantley, Mr. Larkland Richards, his uncle Mr. Morrice Tyrell and his daughter Ms Nailah Tyrell, as well as those who contributed to his success thus far.

Justice Octave gave her blessing to the young attorney, noting that the previous jurisdiction that he worked in was known for its high standard and that he was expected to continue in that trend.

~~Adz:Right~~"His Uncle, Mr. Morrice Tyrell told the Government Press that he was very proud of his nephew and his accomplishments so far and wished him well in the legal arena. "I had the pleasant opportunity to baby sit Collin and they bring just fond memories," he added.  "I watched him grow up, watch him developed and I am extremely proud today that I am here to witness his admission to the Bar.  I wish him well and I know he would do well by God's grace."
