BASSETERRE St.Kitts, January 31st 2011 - On Tuesday February 1st, 2011, the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board observes its 33rd year of operations, having started in 1978.
To mark the occasion, the Minister of Social Security, the Hon. Sam Condor, the Board, Management and Staff worshipped at the Co-Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Sunday January 29th, 2011. During the service, a special rendition was also made by the Stanley Amory Memorial Choir directed by staff member Mr. Damian Audain. Mr.
Walter Morton, Public Relations Officer presented a token of appreciation to the Priest, Father Bernard Latus and the parishioners.
Since its inception, the Social Security Board has collected approximately $1.02 Billion in contributions (2010 unaudited). However, for the same period we have paid approximately $417.15 Million (or $0.41 Billion) in benefits (2010 unaudited). This implies that SSB has paid approximately 41% of all collections to beneficiaries. Also, SSB has a reserve of approximately ($1.15 Billion) at year end 2010.
As we observe this anniversary, the Board, Management and Staff renews its commitment “to provide the best possible benefits to all eligible persons, guaranteed by sound financial management and efficient administration.”
Today, the Fund extends its reach further to such areas of social development including housing, education, health, real estate through the Beacon Heights Development and most recently national security.
The Board, Management and Staff says thanks to the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis for the success that the fund has enjoyed to date; and remind you that ‘we keep looking up for your benefit!’
