Gives it as gift to son

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Boyd’s Village resident is now the owner of a brand new 2011 Suzuki Swift, and it could not have come at a better time as he will be celebrating his 63rd birthday tomorrow (Feb. 4).

Digicel presented the birthday gift to Hugh Vaughan after he was the lucky holder of the key to the EC$60 000 Suzuki Swift at the telecommunications service provider’s ‘Drive Your Dream’ promotion draw held at the Newtown Playfield on Saturday, January 29.

The Digicel’s customers, Vaughan, Orlando Sargeant, Florencetine Morton, Teresa Hamilton and Michael Hendrickson were randomly selected as finalists for the draw and were each given an opportunity to select a key with the hope of  starting the vehicle.

Hendrickson was the first to attempt and he was evidently disappointed over his failure at not having the correct key. Morton was next and, like Hendrickson, she was unable to get the car started. She however quickly existed the vehicle and Sargeant made his attempt, but he also failed.

However, a very confident Vaughan kept repeating that he would be leaving with the vehicle and, as luck would have it, he immediately got the Suzuki Swift started.

“Yes, yes, yes, I told you that I was going to win, I told you so,” he kept repeating to the event’s Master of Ceremonies, Juni Liburd.

The draw was witnessed by hundreds of football fans and Digicel’s customers as well as Digicel St. Kitts/Nevis Country Manager Sean Latty, NAGICO’s Country Manager Rishi Singh and a number of employees of both companies.

Latty, in congratulating Vaughan, thanked him for his support and patronage to Digicel. He urged him to continue being a loyal customer and noted that it pays to be with “the bigger and better network”.

He noted that Digicel would continue to give back to the communities in a very tangible way and the public should look forward to more exciting and innovative promotions.

“Mr. Vaughan, I thank you for being a loyal customer of Digicel and would like to urge you to continue supporting us as we at Digicel would continue giving back to the public.”

Latty informed the gathering that despite the economic challenges experienced by many companies, Digicel intends to continue on the path of executing high profile promotions. “Our marketing team is always coming up with new and innovative promotions for our consumers that offer value and savings back in their pockets,” he added.

Vaughan thanked Digicel NAGICIO Insurance Company Ltd. and reassured that he would remain a customer. “I thank Digicel for this and would like to add that indeed they are the better and bigger network, and please note that I am really thankful for this,” he said.

The other four finalists were each given a BlackBerry handset along with free internet and other services for one year, valued at EC$20 000. They would also be given at least EC$200 credit each month for an entire year.

Digicel’s Marketing Manager Marsha Lindo said the promotion was very successful and the response was overwhelming, which she claimed was company’s biggest. Lindo noted that she was satisfied that the finalists truly represented the Federation, pointing out that one was from Nevis while two were postpaid customers and the other three prepaid.

“This was a very good promotion for us at Digicel as I think that the response was really great. We had people just topping up and topping up in an attempt to get the word SUZUKI spelt so that they can be part of this car draw,” Lindo said.

In her explanation of the promotion, Lindo stated that every customer who topped up during November 16, 2010 and January 21, 2011 had a chance to be selected among the finalists. She said it also included persons who paid their postpaid bill on time or signed up for prepaid talk and text plans.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Vaughan said he was really excited and speechless after his key had started the vehicle. Vaughan declared that he had never won anything in his lifetime and felt satisfied that the time had finally arrived.

Vaughan noted that he is very pleased with the quality and level of service being offered by Digicel, adding that he has not changed since becoming a customer in the early days of the company in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“I became a customer of Digicel when they had just started here, and since then I have remained with them as I like the service that they offer. And I intend to continue being a customer,” he said.

Vaughan disclosed that he had given the car as a gift to his son, whom he said is more deserving of it. “I am really happy that I have won but because of a disability that I have at the moment, I cannot sit for long periods. And when I do, it must be on something exceptionally soft. I have given my son Hugh the car as a gift, as I know that he would make great use of it,” the soft spoken sexagenarian said.

The father of five said he believes his son needs a car because he is married and has one child and he would enjoy the benefits of owning his own vehicle.

“This is the first time that I have owned a vehicle and while I should enjoy it, I want my son to enjoy it also as he needs it more than me.”

He added that he would forever be grateful and thankful to Digicel and urged members of the public to become loyal customers of the telecommunications service provider.

“Digicel will continue to be my telecommunication company of choice as I am really excited about how they give back so much to the people,” he declared.

The younger Vaughan said he was stunned when his father told him he was handing over the vehicle to him. He said he intends to take great care of it, adding that he feels equally excited and pleased like his father.

“My dad’s birthday is on Friday and I am celebrating as he has given me a gift that I never expected, and I am very happy to know that he had chosen to bless me with this vehicle. I say thanks to God and Digicel and would like to join in encouraging the public to support Digicel.”

Hugh Jnr. admitted that he is not a Digicel’s customer but would seriously consider being one, as his fortunes have been unbelievably compounded with the added enjoyment; thanks to NAGICO Insurance Co. Ltd for having the vehicle insured for an entire year.
