Nadia Batson ‘Ready’ for Trinidad Carnival

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SOCA sensation Nadia Batson of Trinidad and Tobago is definitely ready for carnival, judging from her latest single that was released at the end of January.

The track, titled ‘Ready’, is asking individuals if they are ready for carnival to party and get on bad. The song goes on to state, “Put your hands up if you’re ready, put your rags up if you’re ready, put your drinks up if you’re ready.”

‘Ready’, which was penned by the talented Batson and done on the Last Riddim, was produced by GBM Productions. The producer sent the track to SKNVibes via email.

In other news, the ‘Ready’ singer will be joining some of her other soca sisters for the staging of ‘She Is Carnival,’ an all women show being organised by Tropix Entertainment to be held in South Trinidad at Skinner Park from 8:00 p. m. on February 11.

The show will also be held in honor of female calypso legend Calypso Rose, where soca sensations Destra Garcia, Patrice Roberts, Fay Ann Lyons and Lil Bits will grace the stage.

According to a press release from the organizers of the show, it would be a spectacular showcase of the women who have and continue to lead the industry; the women whose music has lifted spirits and brought messages of inspiration to many.

The release also stated that Batson said, “I'm so excited to perform with my soca and calypso sisters on stage at Skinner Park for She Is Carnival.” She added that “Calypso Rose is beautiful in every way. We are so lucky to have her as one of our own and I think it's wonderful that Tropix Entertainment has chosen to honour her. This woman, this mother of our music guided us women. She stood for something and stills stands for it - that something is Trinidad and Tobago's culture - we’re so blessed to have her with us in 2011".

Nadia Batson spent most of her years behind the scenes as a songwriter and background vocalists. She then moved on to become a lead vocalist in Kes The Band before she decided to go mainstream with her music career.

She is known for tracks such as ‘Bumpers Rule’, ‘Yuh Really Wanna’, ‘Caribbean Girl’ and ‘My Posse’.

SKNVibes tried contacting Batson but was unsuccessful in several attempts.  A copy of her ‘Ready’ single has been attached.
