BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A delivery truck driver today (Feb. 4) escaped with a minor injury after the vehicle he was driving overturned on the Bypass Road roundabout near Gillards Gas Station.

Driver of the truck, Roy Isaac, who works at Horsford’s Building Centre, said that at about 2:00 p.m., after dropping off a co-worker, he was making a turn at the corner of the roundabout to head in a westerly direction when the vehicle skidded and overturned.

Isaac said he was the only person in the vehicle and that he suffered a minor injury.

“My foot just get a little pung but I was scared,” he said, adding, “I felt kinda frighten because the seatbelt had me up in the air after the truck turned over and I was choking. So I had to struggle to unbuckle myself and jump out.”

Isaac explained that several minutes after he released himself from the seatbelt, he heard the sound of an approaching ambulance. The truck driver said he told them he was “okay” when asked if he suffered any injury.

Isaac said was it not for the seatbelt he would have probably been thrown out of the vehicle because the windscreen was cracked.

He said too that the headlamp was destroyed and fuel was leaking from the truck.
