Williams, Sobratie to face more charges

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO men, including the father of Elroy ‘Stanny’ Williams, were arrested, charged and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) for aiding and abetting in the robbery of 16 tourists on Sunday, November 14, 2010.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson, “George ‘Naddy’ Welsh of Fig Tree and Delvin ‘Stoby’ Francis of St. Paul’s Village were arrested, charged and cautioned on Thursday (Feb. 3) on 16 warrants in the first instance for aiding and abetting as a commission of a robbery that took place along the road leading to the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park on November 14, 2010.”

Henderson said both accused were remanded to prison and warrants are in existence for the arrest of two others in relation to the robbery.

He noted that the warrants exist for Williams and Junior 'Cue' Sobrati, both of Crab Hill, Sandy Point, who have already been charged with the said robbery and are also inmates of HMP.

Henderson added that they too would soon be charged for “aiding and abetting as a commission of the said robbery”.

On Sunday, November 14, 2010, while 17 cruise ship tourists (including a baby) were aboard a coaster tour bus on their way to visit the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a large branch from a tree was placed across the access road in the vicinity of Lime Kiln to impede the smooth flow of traffic.

The driver exited the tour bus to remove the branch, but while doing so two armed, masked men approached him and he ran from that area to a nearby gas station, from where he notified the police of the incident.

While he was away from the scene, the gunmen robbed the tourists of an undisclosed sum of money, cellular phones, jewellery and other personal items.

Since then, the police had arrested and preferred charges of armed robbery against 29-year-old Williams, Adminston Lewis (23) of Crab Hill, Devon ‘X Man’ Hodge (28) of The Alley, Grenville ‘Rogie’ Rogers (20) of Romney Ground and 27-year-old Sobratie - all of Sandy Point.
