Jeffers elated over Executive Director’s appointment

Glenville Jeffers
By: Rawle Nelson, SKNVibes Business

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RECENTLY appointed Executive to the TDC Group of Companies Board of Directors, Glenville Jeffers said he was overwhelmed on hearing of his promotion and declared that he would continue working hard to achieve the company’s set goals.

“I am very overwhelmed that I have been the one selected to serve as an Executive Director. When I joined the company some 25 years ago, I never thought that today I would be elevated to such a position. It is certainly an honour and privilege and I intend to continue working hard to ensure that the objectives of TDC are fulfilled.”

Jeffers, who for a number of years has been the General Manager of TDC’s Home Building and Depot, explained that his new portfolio has a three-year stint and he intends to continue producing, regardless of what obstacles he may encounter.

“I have done the tour, I have put in a lot of hard work and it’s paying off, so I am very thankful,” he added.

Jeffers noted that since joining the company he had worked at almost every department and the experience gained has helped him to be a better rounded employee.

He also expressed appreciation for his selection by the Board of Directors who saw it fit to reward him in such a tangible manner, noting hard work, diligence and a sincere commitment to one’s tasks would always result in personal benefits.

Jeffers said he started out as an Accounts Clerk in the company and so intense was his passion for accounting that all he wanted was to advance himself in this field. He also said that he had initially planned to work for a few years, complete his studies and from there see where it would have led him.

The Executive Director however explained that after falling in love with his duties and the many opportunities he saw within the company, he decided to remain there and make a life-long career working at TDC.

“When TDC recruited me, I was placed in the Account Department, and accounts is something that I really love. Before leaving to pursue studies in this field, I was thrown to do the entire balance sheet, the entire nine yards and that really motivated me to see that I was able to get to do the entire thing, as some companies only give part of the balance sheet to do. So, I recognised that TDC was providing the opportunities that I needed,” he said.

According to a release from TDC, Jeffers joined the company in September 1985 as an Accounts Clerk and, with the support of the company, he took study leave to pursue a Bachelors degree at PACE University and returned in 1992. He quickly moved up the ranks to the post of Accounting Supervisor and later Assistant Accountant.

The release further stated that in 1993, Jeffers was appointed Chief Accountant, a post he held until he took over the management of the Business Equipment Division in 1998. In 2005, he was assigned General Manager of the TDC Home and Building Depot on St. Kitts.
Jeffers disclosed that his advice to employees would be to remain committed, diligent, dedicated and hardworking. He said he had spoken to some of the new employees with the aim of instilling the ethics of working hard and remaining committed to the company and its set goals.

“I was putting forward to them that they can build a career in a company, regardless of how far down the chain you are. What is important is knowing that once you are doing something that is satisfactory to both the company and yourself, then you can reap the rewards,” Jeffers said.

He stated that working very hard is an important trait in achieving success and that one can never tell who might be looking at one’s performance with the view of a reward.

Jeffers further stated that working long and hard hours are important if persons are interested in success.

“At TDC we work very hard and long hours, but while some people may say that we can get higher pay elsewhere, I believe that we are happier with TDC as this is a company that looks out for its workers, he added.

The newly appointed Executive Director said he had never envisaged being a director and sees this new opportunity as another way of developing and enhancing his contributions to the company.

He noted that the company has played a pivotal role in the development of his working life, noting it was TDC that had greatly assisted him in his pursuit of higher education.

“…I never thought that I would have been given this position. And while some staff would tell me that ‘hey boy, you should be a director’, I never really thought about it. I am just convinced that what is for you will be for you,” he declared.

The other persons to have been promoted are: Natasha Thompson, Manager Information Technology; Steve Farrier, General Manger FINCO Limited; Michelle Lake, General Manager Home and Building Depot St. Kitts; and Percival Hanley, Manager Credit and Contracts Administration. These appointments are effective from Tuesday, February 1, 2011.
