BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE names of a number of top soca artistes in the Caribbean who will be competing in the Trinidad’s International Power Soca Monarch and Groovy Soca Monarch Competitions were recently released, and among them is St. Kitts’ Soca Monarch Konris Maynard. to be held on February 13.
The competitions are slated for Sunday (Feb. 13) and the artistes scheduled to contest for the Power Soca Monarchy are Bunji Garlin, Erphaan Alves, Crazy, Nadia Batson and Patrice Roberts, Ravi B, Zuki and Tim Tim, Tallpree, Kevin Celestine,Lil Bits,Ghetto Flex, Destra, Iwer George, C Donia, Michelle Xavier,Patch, Fay-Ann Lyons,Terri Lyons, Shal Marshall, King Konris, Machel Montano, Denyse Plummer,Tony Prescott, Madd Zart, Princess Adana,Pelf, Blaxx, Ajala, Megan and Shurwayne Winchester.
Nine of those artistes will be selected to move on to the Finals to challenge defending Monarchs JW and Blaze.
The artistes who will be vying for the Groovy Soca Monarch’s crown are Mr. Renzo, Nadia Batson, Saucy Wow, RaviB, Super Jigga TC, Sugar Jay, Lil Bitts, Swappi, Kes, Ricardo Drue, Kerwin Du Bois, Zan, Nnika Francis, Destra, Chucky, Yankee Boy and Patch, All Rounder, Farmer Nappy, Benjai, Shal Marshall, Lyrikal, Jahmoun, Orlando Octave Jr., Patrice Roberts, Mr. Dale, Kimba Sorzano, Blaxx, Cassi and Megan.
Similar to Power Soca, nine of them will be chosen to compete in the Finals against Shurwayne Winchester.
The Finals will take place on March 4 at Queens Park where the winner of the Power Soca Monarch category will receive TT$2M. This is said to be the biggest purse ever to be awarded for this competition, which, as a result, has attracted many artistes.
Meanwhile, the amount for the Groovy Soca Monarch category has not yet been finalised.
