BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Basseterre High Court jury yesterday (Feb. 8) unanimously returned a guilty verdict that will see a Saddlers Village man reappearing before the same judge for his sentencing hearing.

Emmanuel Mills of Saddlers Village, who appeared yesterday before His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas, was found guilty of rape, two counts of assault with intent to rob, and burglary.

Mills was accused of breaking into the home of a Saddlers Village woman on August 29, 2010, whom he assaulted and raped during the process.

Seven prosecution witnesses including the victim, a doctor and two police officers gave evidence in court that suggested Mills had indeed committed the offences.

After the prosecution had rested its case, Mills, who was unrepresented, defended himself and called on two witnesses to support his not guilty arguments.

The case was tried in camera to protect the identity of the victim. However, SKNVibes learned that the witnesses were his mother and uncle who allegedly gave contradicting testimonies in court.

After his summation, His Lordship dispatched the jury sometime after 3:00 p.m. and they returned 90 minutes after with the unanimous verdict.

Mills will be sentenced on Thursday, February 24, 2011.

Meanwhile, Fitzroy Challenger of St. Pauls was found guilty of entering a dwelling house with intent to rape and will be sentenced on Thursday, February 17.
