PM Douglas: No ultimatum received from any Cabinet Minister

By: Erasmus Williams, CUOPM (Press Release)

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 10TH 2011 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said there is no truth that he has been given an ultimatum from his Cabinet Ministers with regard to his continued service to the people of the twin-island Federation in the high office.

“No Minister within my Cabinet has ever given me any ultimatum with regard to my continuing service to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. None has, and I do not think any ever will, because the process with regard to my continuation is determined not only in terms by the Constitution of St. Kitts and Nevis, but by the Constitution of our great Party, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party,” Prime Minister Douglas told a caller to his live radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister” on Tuesday.

“There is no truth in that whatsoever,” added Prime Minister, who acknowledged “there has a lot of wild, loose talk out there about my service which is determined by God first, and then the people of St. Kitts and Nevis after.”

“I am not in any way deterred from the focussed mission that has been given to me. There will continue to be talk but as I have said I am not in any was deterred by the loose and unnecessary talk that is out there,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who led his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party to a fourth straight win in the January 25th 2010 general elections winning six of the eight seats on St. Kitts with 60 percent of the votes cast on St. Kitts. The Labour Party controls six of the eleven seats in the National Assembly.
