Six to compete for Miss BHS Talented Teen title

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SIX young and intelligent beauties from the Basseterre High School will be competing for the school’s Talented Teen 2011 crown on March 4, 2011 and the winner will be representing their learning institution for the Miss UDC Talented Teen title in December. 

     


    Each contestant was given a platform on which their performances will be based throughout the night of the contest.

     


    The contestants are Miss Education and Recreation - Shanik Joshua, Miss Historical and Cultural Preservation – Kymera Francis, Miss Personal and Community Development – Naomi Finch, Miss Spiritual and Moral Development – Kevina Buchanan, Miss Fiscal Management – Monique Johnson and Miss Health and Family Life - Ishelka Celestine.

     


    The annual pageant which is in its fifth staging would see the contestants being judged in Introductory Speech, Talent, Creative Wear, Formal Wear and Interviewed under the theme 'Youth Prepared for Responsible Leadership'.  

     


    According to Pageant Coordinator Jenifer Belle, the purpose of the pageant is mainly to raise funds for the school, while at the same time getting the young ladies involved in volunteerism and to develop their public speaking skills, self-esteem and also an avenue where they could discover new talents.
     

     

    Belle said the contestants would be engaged in a number of activities prior to the pageant which included a visit to the Children’s Ward at JNF Hospital on Sunday (Feb. 13) to conduct a story-telling session.  

     


    They would also have a session on ethics and fine dining, training on interviewing and public speaking skills that would be done with the school’s Principle Carlene Morton, along with modelling and stage appearance training by Jason Amory. 

     


    The pageant will also view sideshow performances by upcoming rising star Sunrisa along with Nicha B and the H20 Dancers, while music will be provided by the house band – Grand Masters.

     


    The winner of the pageant will be crowned by her predecessor, Cinnamon Matthew.
