CHARLESTOWN Nevis, February 16th 2011 - Little Zelisha Shallow left the rest of field quite a distance behind as she dominated the senior girls cross country event at the Belle Vue international Primary School yesterday. Despite being given a new route in an effort to avoid main road traffic, Zelisha virtually led all the way and handled the steep Bath Hill incline superbly and rushed home a clear winner.
David Morgan for the senior boys did not have it that easy. Actually, by the time the athletes got into the Bath Hill, there were three front runners challenging each other fiercely. David however, managed to clear the pack within the final one hundred meters and came through with a strong finish.
The new route took the children towards the main road next to Ram’s, making a right turn to upper Bath Plain, going past the Community Center in Bath Village, up Bath Hill-- next to the Bath Hotel and then back to the school.
The juniors on the other hand, started in the vicinity of the Deputy Governor’s residence, headed towards the main road next to Ram’s, making a right about turn and then back to the school. Odecia Edwards was first for the girls, while Ayinde George was first for the boys.
The top five placers in each category were:
Senior girls:
Zelisha Shallow; Oshana Edwards; Makesha Pemberton; Sheneza Warde and Dessirique Maloney
Senior Boys:
David Morgan, Andre Morton; Ketheron Powell; Kieron Liverpool and Vickram Chanand
Junior Girls:
Odecia Edwards; Darshanie Liburd; Khylee Clarke; Shakivia Hanley and Kelsey Liverpool
Junior boys:
Ayinde George; Osaffo Edwards; Jaquan Andrew; Osanno Edwards and Ethan Smithen
Due to the fact that the routes were changed, the winners all got their names in the school’s history books, effectively creating brand new records for their respective events.
