BASSETERRE St.Kitts, February 17th 2011 - A Form Three student at the Basseterre High School, 14 year old Kevina Buchanan is described by her classmates as a peaceful, loving and kind individual, willing to assist anyone, reserved at times, but overall, extremely respectful.
With a career goal of becoming a paediatrician, it seems as if Kevina was predisposed for this career because she has always enjoyed her interactions with children. As a student, she favours subjects such as Mathematics and Biology, recognizing that these subjects will give her the necessary foundation to accomplish her goal as a paediatrician
Kevina states that she was inspired to become a paediatrician upon visiting sick children at the JNF hospital. She emphasises, that she enjoys helping and contributing towards the betterment of disadvantaged and sick youths and thus will be better able to do this at a greater capacity as a paediatrician.
This vivacious young lady enjoys dancing, singing, and making others happy. She is a past member of the Girls Brigade. Her participation in such an organisation has helped to hone her altruistic self. Additionally, Kevina has been active in sports, especially in netball and cricket.
Kevina holds steadfast to her personal motto and states: “So long as there is breath in me, that long I will persist. For now I know one of the greatest principles on success; if I persist long enough I will win."
She credits her older sister Kevinette for being such a positive influence in her life. “I strive to emulate her each day because she is ambitious, respectful, and has consistently excelled in school. She encourages me not only to live up to her standards but to surpass them” states Kevina.
Kevina encourages all youths to “engage in activities and practices that nurture both your spiritual and moral selves” she further admonishes her peers to Live a productive and meaningful life by strategically setting goals and working tirelessly towards achieving them. She encourages them to hold steadfast to this quote by — Martin Luther King Jr. “If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."
