CHARLESTOWN Nevis, February 21st 2011 - All eyes will be on the SDA Jets as the second round of matches in the 2011 Bonzo 10/10 series continues at the Ramsbury grounds tomorrow.
The series which is sponsored by the Nevis Credit Union is already generating quite some interest as SDA Jets created a major upset last week when they convincingly knocked out the powerful Pennyless All Stars team.
As they prepare to take on champions Highlights Int tomorrow in game one, cricketing pundits will be watching closely to see if it was only a fluke. If it was not a mere fluke then it means that the Jets would have established themselves as the official Giant Killers.
The doubters still do not give them a ghost of a chance versus a really powerful champion Highlights team but on the other hand the Jets men are bubbling with confidence
Tale of the tape
For the Highlights team, look out for an enterprising partnership between openers Carlon Smithen and young Duane Phillip. Both have the potential to tear any attack apart. Then there is the consistent and aggressive Winston Sutton to follow and Wendell Wallace could be a handful at the death.
The starting bowling line up for the Jets could be a handful however and Smithen and Phillip will not be allowed to go to driving school. They could expect some speedy short pitched bowling from Curtis Morton Jr and Leon Clarke. Then there is the impressive medium pace of Brain Dowe to follow, along with Captain Venrick Newton.
The Highlights bowling will not be easy to get past, led by the aggressive Ian Byron, with the wily Wendell Wallace, the yorker specialist along with Nigel Browne with his off spinning trundlers, helped by the experienced medium pace of his older brother Dennison.
The SDA Jets will come out blazing however, with Curtis Morton Sr and Oneil Walters at the top, to be followed by the impressive Leon Clarke and the hurricane batting of Venrick Newton, along with the more sedate Charles Morton. The Jets also back themselves with batting right down to about number 8.
Will the Giant Killers humble another big team? Only time will tell—but the JETS certainly are believers!
Here is the line up for the next round of matches:
Tuesday 22nd Feb at 4.30 pm—SDA Jets v Highlights Int
Game two: Empire V Big Rock
Wednesday 23rd Feb Jessups v the winner of game one on Tuesday
Thursday 24th February—Finals: The winner of the Empire v Big Rock game versus the winner of Wednesday’s game.
It is quite possible that the Jets will be playing on three consecutive nights
