BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE 15-year-old female of Lozack Road who escaped from police custody and was subsequently caught at the Strip in Frigate Bay, appeared Monday (Feb. 21) before Magistrate Simone Bullen-Thompson and pleaded guilty to larceny of a cellular phone.
It was reported that a young female of Parsons Village, who is a student at the Saddler’s Secondary School, had placed her cellular phone on the edge of the court while practicing with the National Under-13 Netball team at Netball City in Warner Park on Tuesday, January 18, 2011.
The juvenile was seen when she took the phone and the matter was reported the police. She was arrested two days after the incident and was in custody at the Basseterre Police Station. However, sometime in the evening she informed the officers that she was asthmatic and needed her medication which was at her Lozack Road home.
Accompanied by an officer, the juvenile was taken to her home but she jumped through a window and escaped.
She was subsequently seen partying at The Strip at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 22) and was arrested, placed in custody at the Basseterre Police Station and was bailed two days later after being charged for escaping from lawful custody and larceny.
However, at her trial on Monday, the only charge read in court is that of larceny of a cellular phone to which she pleaded guilty.
Magistrate Bullen-Thompson ordered a social enquiry be conducted on the 15-year-old and the report be produced in court on Monday, March 7, 2011 for her to administer sentence.
