BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – QUITE recently, a man expressed his disgust of women who always rely on men to pay for everything they need and want. He therefore suggested that SKNVibes feature an article on this topic to get the public’s opinion.
The young man went on to say that he thinks it is totally unfair that a man sometimes has to give a woman money to buy an outfit then still has to pay the entire bill when they go out, and sometimes even has to pay for them to get their hair done.
He also expressed his concerns with celebrations such as Valentine’s Day. He said women always expect to receive something on that day or it would result in an argument or falling out, but at the same time they do not see it fit to buy the man gifts.
“And when we don’t receive anything it is fine with us…there is no discrepancy,” he added.
From his statements, SKNVibes asked a number of people the following question – “Should a man always have to pay for everything?”
Dimi said, “No, I don’t believe so! I think women should also say, ‘I’ll handle it sweetie.’ That would show me that she is one of a kind, and those kinds of women are hard to find these days.”
A young woman, who prefers to be referred to as ‘Wifey’, said it all depends on what kind of man he is. “If he is a ‘mumu man’ then hell yea is everything he would have to buy, even things I don’t want. But if it is my main squeeze, then the bill should be spilt at all times or sometimes him and other times me,” she added.
Middle-aged Sly said if it were a relationship or partnership there should be the clear view of sharing, because when one gets into the habit of giving, especially to women, it becomes controlling and the man starts to demand and eventually dictates things and situations in their lives.
“A woman who expects a man to pay for everything all the time is a very selfish woman. Come on ladies. Some of you claim to be independent and are always in the club throwing up your hands when the DJs ask, ‘Where the independent ladies at.’ Then at the same time you are still waiting on a man to buy you a drink all night. It is pathetic,” said a cashier.
A mother of four named Kelle said a man should not have to pay for everything but there are some guys who are genuine unlike some others who are dogs. She noted that some men also like to pay even if they are last in some women’s book, so why not just let them.
Warren said it is good when a man could take care of his woman but, at the same time, it is also good when a woman shows a little independence. He claimed that it is a good image for her because it makes a man smile on the inside.
Men are often said to be head of a household and, in today’s society, it is said if he cannot take care of his woman then he has nothing to offer. So, could this be the reason why some women feel that a man should bear the responsibility of supplying her every need? Or is it that some women simply have no conscience?
