BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 24th February 2011 - Kofi Anan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Al Hussain of Jordan were among the eminent personalities officiating in the just concluded 34th Session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), headquartered in Rome, Italy.
Former UN Secretary General, H. E. Kofi Anan, and Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Al Hussain delivered keynote addresses on the theme “Feeding future generations – Young rural people today, prosperous farmers tomorrow”.
IFAD has a membership of 165 countries of which St. Kitts and Nevis is a member. Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, Senior Minister and Minister of Agriculture represented the Federation at the IFAD Conference.
IFAD is a specialized UN agency dedicated exclusively to reducing rural poverty in developing countries.
IFAD’s goal is to empower poor and rural women and men to achieve higher incomes and improved food security.
