BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A number of past members of the Newtown Scouts will be hosting an awards dinner to honour their former leader Charles Mc Master for his outstanding performance in the field of scouting in the Federation.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday (Feb. 26) at 7:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Garden.

According to past member Dongo Farrell, Mc Master played a very important role in their lives in terms of discipline and assisted them to become respectable citizens of the St. Kitts and Nevis.

“This man has played an important role in our lives, some of us got our first overseas trip with him as well as our first camping and fishing experience,” he said.

Farrell said some of the past members include prominent men who have all turned out to be exceptional individuals in the Federation. Among them are Curtis Martin, Speaker of the National Assemble; Calvin Pemberton, Director of Public Works; Gregory Hobson; lead vocalist of the Nu Vybes International Band; Ashley Allers, business owner and taxi tour operator; Alexis Liburd, owner of Quick Lube Garage; David Lake, LIME’s Country Manager; Kevin Isles who owns a painting company; Clevorn Flemming who owns an artwork company; and Director of Youth Jeffery Hanley.

He said over 50 affiliates of the Newtown Scouts would be present at the awards dinner to show their appreciation for the impact Mc Master has made on their lives. He noted that a plaque would be presented to Mc Master.

Farrell is of the view that the youths of today are lacking positive role models and the Boys Scouts was something that has molded many young men, but is dormant in today’s society.

He said there is a need for the resuscitation of the Boys Scouts in order to assist in guiding some of the nation’s youth in the right direction. He however declared that it has to be done by someone who is willing to devote their life to helping the children as their former leader did.

Scouts is a movement or programme designed to develop youths who have a high degree of self-reliance, initiative, courage, helpfulness, integrity, sportsmanship and resourcefulness. It helps them in understanding their society, heritage and culture, and to have respect for the rights of others and be positive leader-citizens.
