Five names revealed for Miss Back 2 Roots 2011

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE names of five college beauties were revealed for the staging of the 2011 Miss Back 2 Roots Pageant scheduled for Carnival Village on Saturday, March 12.

Each contestant will represent a country on the African continent, and they are Miss Nigeria – Ngozi Nicholls, Miss Cameron – Patricia Clarke, Miss Ghana - Joeana Mc Carty, Miss Liberia – Juliana Josephs and Miss Sierra Leone – Zemone Morton.

The pageant is normally held in February, the same month in which Black History is celebrated; however, because of a clash with another event on the date for which it was initially planned, the committee decided that it would be held in March, according to one of the organisers.

After breaking the ice with the Fanfair segment, the contestants will then compete in four judged segments - Introductory Speech, Talent, Creative Wear and African Wear.

The Miss Back 2 Roots Pageant is a fund-raising event organised by the History Club of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.

According to Sheila Morris, head of the Organising Committee, preparations for the pageant have so far been excellent. She also said that the contestants are gearing up for the big night and all of them are really excited.

The organisers are hoping that businesses would get onboard to sponsor the annual event and also come out on the night of the pageant to support the contestants.

Zionshaw Joseph took the crown last year with 93.72 points out of a possible 110. She also took the awards for Best Speech, Best Talent and Best Creative Wear.
