Vandalism at Brown Hill Play field

Rope at Brown Hill play field
By: Curtis Morton, Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, February 25th 2011 - Mr. Franklyn ‘Kut’ Daniel, the gentleman responsible for grounds and sporting facilities within the Ministry of Social Development, yesterday confirmed that there had been acts of vandalism at the newly renovated Brown Hill Playing field.

Daniel indicated that Errol ‘Jabal’ Walwyn, well known groundsman has the responsibility of watering and nurturing the grass that has been planted at the play field and he left the facility at around 11 pm on the evening of Wednesday 25th February.  He had left everything intact and carefully secured the main gate utilizing a rope.

On return to the grounds early on the morning of Thursday 24th February, he first noted that the rope to the gate had been cut and on checking further noticed that two hoses had been cut and two sprinklers used on the grounds were missing.

Daniel indicated that a formal report would be made to the Ministry officials including Permanent Secretary Mr. Alsted Pemberton and Minister of Sports Hon Hensley Daniel. A report was also to be made to the Police authorities.

According to Daniel, the grounds should still be ready for the grand annual sports meet of the Ivor Walters Primary School but beseeched all and sundry: “If you can’t be good—stay away from the grounds”.  He is also appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the prosecution of the culprit/s to pass on such information to the Ministry officials or to the Police.
