CHARLESTOWN Nevis, February 28th 2011 - Friday 25th February was a hectic day on the schools’ calendar on Nevis. No fewer than four schools held their annual cross country events on that day;
At the Gingerland Pre School, the children ran from the Gingerland Health Center and back to the Pre School.
In the Boys’ category, the top five placers were:
Yudel Wisdom; Vernon Smithen; Randy Hobson; Ulando Smithen and Omar Wilkin
For the girls: Zhaysha Mills; Tianna Griffin; Ny Ailah Jeffers; Sherzma Jeffers and Kenoya Williams.
The school will hold its annual Sports meet on March 3rd 2010
At the Maude Cross Preparatory School, the smaller children completed a circular route, running away from the school, making a right turn close to the Shiloh Baptist church at Ramsbury and coming down the road close to Percy’s Jewellery store and back to the school.
The older children went further up the road, past the residence of Mr. Joseph Wiltshire and making a right turn across by Floris Finley, running next to Nevis Multi line and back to the school.
One of the commendable features of the day was a demonstration of commitment and resilience by top athlete, little Carlon Tucket who even though ill decided to run the race and eventually was forced to stop running but walked in nonetheless. He later had to be rushed home with a high temperature.
