Basseterre, St. Kitts) Two National Volleyball players returned home after competing in the XX Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena de Indias.
St. Clair Hodge and Shawn Seabrookes both represented the federation in the discipline of beach volleyball and according to their manager/coach David Walter and Director of sport Leroy Greene, who was the Chef de Mission in Colombia, the two were excellent ambassadors in every facet, for St. Kitts and Nevis.
Thirty one countries competed in the games which are considered a launch pad for the Pan American Games in Brazil, next year and the summer Olympics in 2008.
While St. Clair and Shawn, competed against teams from Venezuela, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Barbados.
Both players were victorious over the United States Virgin Islands but fell short against the other Opponents.
They, however, were not perturbed by this as it was the first time that St. Kitts and Nevis was able to compete in beach volleyball at such a level.
The two young players have only been partners for four months, and their inexperience was visible on various occasions, but they have been inspired by the glowing reviews from the tournament officials and organizers.
The officials have encouraged the pair to compete on the professional circuit. The National Olympic committee (NOC) has been very impressed with the team's performance and they are presently exploiting every avenue to help the pair prepare for the Pan American Games in Brazil.
