In line with the Nevis Island Administrations policies to transform the education system into a comprehensive, coordinated and coherent program that would effectively prepare the youths for tomorrow, Minister of Youth, the Hon Mr. Hensley Daniel said on Wednesday 9, that the government had committed to anchor its programmes on education.
He was at the time meeting with five persons on their way to pursue studies at the Midwestern University in Texas.

The Nevis Island Government has made a commitment to anchor its programmes on education, anchor its programmes on youth development, said Mr. Daniel.  We are going to as far as possible assist these students in arriving at their goal. These students we have are able and they are quite equipped to do very well at the university.

Five students, Ms Zahnela Claxton who would be pursuing a degree in Psychology and Mass Communications, Ms Kerilyn Edwards in Business Computer Information Systems and Accounting and Mr Ronrick Pemberton in Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Science are teachers of the Gingerland Secondary School.  The other two students who came from the private sector are Mr Merjon Richardson who would be pursing a degree in Economics and Mr Frank Jeffers in Finance.

The students were given the opportunity to commence their studies in the fall semester at the Midwestern University which came through the Universitys International Recruiting Programme that was facilitated through Mr and Mrs Hensley Daniel.  The programme accommodates Caribbean students in particular those from the Leeward and Windward Islands.

Minister Daniel, while he wished the students best of luck, noted that the Nevis Island Administration recognized the areas that the students would be engaged in as being central to the future development of the country.  We would like the students to do their best at the University.  Based on the performance of Mr. Hezron Wade (one of Nevis students at the University) we expect these students will do similarly, said Minister Daniel.
