BASSETERRE St.Kitts, March 4th 2011 - Mr. Michel Morton, Chairman of the TDC Group of Companies, was returned as President of The St Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry & Commerce at its Sixty-second Annual General Meeting which was held at the Ocean Terrace Inn on Monday 28th February 2011.

President Morton thanked the outgoing Board members for their support during the past year, and welcomed to the Board the new and continuing members.
The gathering also received an Overview of the Report of the Activities of the Chamber for the past year. This was presented by Mr. Howard Richardson, Executive Officer.
Topics highlighted included:-
• The continuing Global and National Economic Challenges,
• The considerable resources, both human and financial, spent by the Chamber to mitigate some of the challenges with regard to the implementation of VAT.
• The successful week of activities held by the Manufacturers Division in October
• Tourism sustainability - especially on Nevis
• High Levels of Criminal activity affecting all residents on both islands.
• The successful Junior Achievement Programme.
Mr. Morton then introduced Mr. Calvin Cable, the Executive Director Designate, who officially took up duty from Tuesday 1st March 2011.
Mr. Cable then presented an overview of the DEBCO Project, which was designed for the Development of East Caribbean Business Organizations, This is a European Union Aid Package designed to provide equipment, technical assistance and training for three OECS Chambers. This training is targeted towards improving the skills of Chamber staff to provide services which are more relevant to its members and to the wider business community, and also to equip the Chamber to become an agency for the delivery of Technical Assistance and Training to Small and Medium Sized Businesses within the federation in the near future.
