BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young Basseterre man, Rondale Hanley, was recently charged and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison for breaking into the warehouse of Island Food Supermarket and removing a large quantity of items.

Information reaching this publication states that about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force responded to a call that a break-in was in progress at the warehouse of a Chinese supermarket on Prickly Pear Alley and Cayon Street.

On arrival at the scene, the lawmen met and apprehended Hanley. They also mounted a search operation and managed to recover a large amount of the stolen items from the public bath at Upper Prickley Pear Alley and also from an abandoned building and an empty plot of land in Dorset Village.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson, the scene was processed by officers from the Crime Scene Department and a number of photographs were taken. He also said the stolen items were taken into custody and that five persons, including Hanley, were assisting police with their investigations into the matter.

Since then, Hanley was charged and taken before a city magistrate who remanded him to prison.

Henderson, who was high in praise of the public, said, “We want to thank the general public for working with the police. It shows that they have a considerable amount of faith in us.”

SKNVibes spoke with the owner of Island Food Supermarket, Alex Lee, who said the thieves that broke into his warehouse were very “professional”.

“They are very professional. They took off the whole door, they took off the screws and I never see a thief like that. I was surprised when I saw it,” Lee said.

Inspector Henderson informed that investigations into the break-in are ongoing.
