BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOUR men were arrested and charged yesterday morning (Mar. 8) during a police operation in Newtown that resulted in the find of two illegal firearms and a quantity of ammunition.
According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan, members of the Special Services and Anti-Gang Units conducted searches in the Newtown area and found a 1.45 pistol with one matching round, one .40 pistol with three matching rounds and 42 assorted rounds of ammunition beside the fence of a house in Neverson Street, Newtown.
Henderson said, as a result of the find, Shaville Parris of Shadwell Estate, Alex Claxton of Bath Village in Nevis, Elroy Cannonier of Neverson Street, Newtown and Vincent Williams of Herbert Street, Newtown were arrested, charged and yesterday appeared before a city magistrate who remanded them to Her Majesty’s Prison.
This find brings to four the total amount of illegal firearms removed from the streets of the Federation for the year. In 2010 police had removed 45 of them off the streets – 11 in Nevis and 34 in St. Kitts.
