Lightz Out Band back on track…one new member added

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER launching out in 2006 as one of the Federation’s bands with the youngest members, the Lightz Out Band encountered some difficulties in 2010 and had a short hiatus, but is now back on track.

According to Craig Nero, a member of the management team, the band recently reunited and has so far performed at the Basement and the recently-renovated Pumpkin with its new singer Imran 'Clubby' Liburd.

Liburd joined the band as one of its vocalists and comes fully experienced, as he holds a number of years under his belt as a former singer with the Small-Axe Band. He has replaced former vocalist Jason ‘KT’ Kyte who now sings with the Nu Vybes International Band.

Nero indicated that feedback from their recent performances and with the new addition have been tremendous, as the transition has been near seamless.

He told SKNVibes that the gigs were also used as a gauge to show their readiness to re-emerge as a top class musical act within the region, as they saw it necessary to regain that level of chemistry which granted them the opportunity to perform at the St. Kitts Music Festival in their third year of existence.

Nero said the main reason for the break in 2010 was to accommodate a few members who had other commitments overseas.

“As a testimony to the groups’ individual musicianship and professionalism, a number of members were able to perform with other renowned bands both locally and abroad during that period,” he said.

Nero also said the core of the band had been back together since December last year. He however noted that due to the timeframe in getting the full team back into the Federation, a decision was taken to sit out the Sugar Mass Carnival celebrations, as they felt there was not enough time to put together the quality of product they are known to produce.

“Since our inception, we've become synonymous with quality, high octane and versatile musical performances. The public can continue to expect the same from us. We have plans of releasing a number of tracks during the upcoming weeks as an indication of what's to come during the ensuing months,” Nero explained.

As the band is back in full swing, the members have a number of gigs lined up and are inviting patrons to come out and celebrate with them. They are scheduled to perform at The Crab Hole, also known as Friends & Family Bar & Lounge, at the Frigate Bay Strip on Friday (Mar. 11).

The current members are Daven 'Dabo' Benjamin - vocalist, Stickle 'Ras' Bennett - keyboardist/programmer, Javan 'Bab' Huggins – drummer, Devin 'Devbo' Lennon - lead guitarist, Imran 'Clubby' Liburd – vocalist, Istivon 'Busta' Richards – vocalist and Revilo 'Panco' Rogers - bass guitarist.

Nero along with other members of the management team and the band members said they would like to thank all those persons who had contributed to their journey.
