BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A shooting incident in Conaree Village last night (Mar. 13) has left one man dead and his cousin hospitalised.

Information reaching SKNVibes states that the two young men, Quincy Liburd (29) of Gingerland, Nevis and Chevaughn ‘Chronic’ Hendricks (22) of Lime Kiln Project, were shot sometime after 10:00 last night in Conaree Village. Liburd was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer while Hendricks was transported to the JNF Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and is warded in stable condition.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Hendrickson, officers at the Basseterre Police Station received a report at approximately 10:10 p.m. about a shooting in Conaree Village and members of the Criminal Investigation Department, Special Services Unit and the Anti-Gang Unit responded immediately.

“Their investigations revealed that 29-year-old Quincy Liburd of Gingerland, Nevis, but who resides at Lime Kiln Project, was shot multiple times and killed. Investigations also revealed that Chevaughn Hendricks, 22 years old of Lime Kiln, was also shot and injured during the same incident,” Hendrickson said.

In his explanation of the circumstances surrounding the incident, Inspector Henderson said Liburd was in motor jeep (PA4557) parked outside a certain residence in Conaree waiting to pick up Hendricks, who is his cousin, when two masked gunmen fired shots at them.

“Just before Hendricks entered the vehicle, two masked assailants fired multiple shots at both of them. Liburd received multiple shots about his body and Hendricks received shots to his legs and hand.

“Hendricks made his escape through some nearby bushes and Liburd immediately drove off in an attempt to escape but did not make it far, as he lost control and collided with the rear of motorcar PA6916. Police officers from the Crime Scene Department visited and processed the scene and a number of items of evidential value were collected.

“Liburd was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer. Also, the Coroner gave permission for the body of the deceased to be removed to a funeral home under police escort. Hendricks is presently warded at the JNF Hospital in stable condition and an autopsy will be performed at the earliest opportunity to determine the cause of Liburd’s death.

He noted that investigations are ongoing.

This has been the third murder recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year.

The first was that of Devon Morton of Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peters, who died at the JNF Hospital 15 days after he was shot by two masked gunmen in Mc Knight on the night of Monday, January 10.

According to reports, while the 28-year-old was inside a club on Lower Cunningham Street, near to Fort Thomas Road in Mc Knight, two masked gunmen approached and opened fire, hitting Ashley Allers  in the shoulder and Morton to the chest, abdomen, thigh and hand. Allers is said to be the proprietor of the club.

The second murder was that of Sean ‘Tegroman’ Brazier (38) of Pitcairn Street, Newtown, who was shot multiple times to the body sometime after 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5.

To date, no one has been arrested in connection with these incidents but police state that investigations are ongoing.
