(August 2006) - Omar Dore of the St Kitts Marriott Resort is the proud recipient of a J1 Visa from Marriott International. 22 year old Omar hails from the village of Cayon and started his tenure at the St Kitts Marriott Resort & the Royal Beach Casino as a Cook in the La Cucina restaurant in January 20 2003.
Due to his exemplary performance and willingness to learn he was promoted to Lead Cook in February 2004. Omar was also the recipient of the Associate of the Month award in August 2003 proof of his everlasting drive and commitment in his area of culinary expertise.

The J1 Visa Program was introduced with associates participating from Marriott's over 2600 properties worldwide, all vying for the opportunity to be a part of this program. This program reaches up to 100 visas a year so far for this year there are 14 active participants worldwide, out of 222, 000 worldwide total associates with Marriott Corporation.
Omar started the process in April 2006, Marriott International Corporation submitted the request in June 2006 and the acceptance was received in July 2006. This is a very special moment for our St Kitts Marriott Team as Omar has been chosen to further his career as a Lead Cook for 12 months at one of our Premier Resorts, the 737 room hotel Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club and Spa located in Marco Island Florida (100 miles away from Miami).
Through this program Omar has the opportunity to participate in practical training. The program structure includes a variety of training opportunities ranging from Front Office to Food and Beverage. Candidates can receive first-hand, real life managerial, supervisory or specialty occupation knowledge and experience, plus learn Marriott's standards of hotel operations.
