PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – JUST hours before preparing to cast his vote, Haitian singer Wyclef Jean had to be taken to a hospital yesterday (Mar. 19) after being shot in one of his hands outside Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
Although details surrounding the incident are still unknown, reports from Jean’s Twitter page have indicated that the singer is okay and also thanking his fans for their thoughts and prayers.
The incident comes on the eve of the presidential elections in Haiti where Jean is supporting fellow musician Michel Martelly.
Last year, the 41-year-old singer had signalled his intention to run for president of his birth land, but in August of that year Haiti's Electoral Council ruled that he was ineligible, due to the fact that he did not meet the requirement of presidential candidates maintaining five consecutive years of residency in the country before running.
The singer, who performed in St. Kitts on behalf of the Labour Party during its 2010 Election campaign, is best known as the front man of The Fugees.
He also hos a great deal of hits under his belt including ‘Gone Till November’, ‘It Doesn’t Matter’, ‘Someone Please Call 911’ and ‘Anything Can Happen’.
