Minor displays homosexual tendency…Who to blame?

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EVERY adult is entitled to live the life he or she chooses, but it should be in accordance with the statutes of the land upon which they dwell as well as in keeping with religious persuasions, especially when they are from a religious-oriented society.

Children, however, must be subjected to the rules and regulations instituted by their parents/guardians and the institutions within which they attend to acquire their basic and advance education.

In the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, like many other Caribbean countries, homosexuality is not a new phenomenon; it is a sexual behaviour that was always present but practiced in secret. Today, however, given the widespread promotion of sexual orientation by gay and lesbian rights advocates, many individuals with this tendency are coming out of the closets and can be seen in bars, nightclubs and parading the streets.

However, the most outrageous trend that is rapidly developing in St. Kitts, is the public display of homosexual tendencies by adolescents…and it is being done by both sexes.

In particular, a male student of a notable secondary school in Basseterre is normally seen attired in clothing designed for the fairer sex and sports wigs as well as false eyelashes.

He is no more than 16 years old and was recently seen at his school’s Sports Day dressed as a female in red leggings, a short red tube that exposed his lower abdomen and a cream cardigan accessorised with matching necklace and clutch purse.

He was the epitome of American actor, drag queen, model and songwriter - RuPaul Andre Charles, and had attracted the attention of all who attended the sports meet.

A number of parents had visited SKNVibes and shared their concerns on this particular incident.

One parent asked, “Why was that student allowed to enter the Sports Day dressed in female garments, and why was he not escorted out of the compound by a security personnel or teachers who saw him?”

Another concerned parent asked, “What about parental control…why was he allowed to leave his home dressed in that manner?”

This media house therefore begs to question…“Who is guilty of encouraging the behaviour of this minor and what will the law-making body and religious leaders do about it?”
