St.Thomas’ athletes ready for the big day

By: Curtis Morton, Press Release

    CHARLESTOWN Nevis, March 25th 2011 - The count down is well and truly on for the annual grand inter Primary sports meet on Nevis - appropriately dubbed ‘the mini Olympics’. The athletes at the participating schools are undergoing rigorous training exercises and Sportscaster Curtis Morton has started his rounds around the island to get a feel from the schools as to how their preparations are going.

    The first stop was at the St.Thomas’ Primary school.  Coach Eddy Caines as per usual stressed that he was not putting any extra pressure on the children.  “I want them to enjoy themselves and give it their all.  Once they do that, whatever the results are, I’ll be satisfied”, he declared.

    The children at the time were going through the drills of practising for the relay events.  A lot of emphasis was being placed on the passing of the baton.  “We are just sorting out our best teams”, said Coach Eddy who was ably assisted by Coach Jasmine Charles.

    The children for their part were loud in their determination to lift the winner’s trophy for this year.  They vigorously delivered a bit of one of their songs:

    “We are on a mission---we are on a mission;;;
    We going mash up the orange...we going mash up the purple….”

    Coach Caines also indicated that based on the performances of his athletes at the school’s annual sports meet, many people have told him that St.Thomas’ looks like the winning school this year.  “The folks in Gingerland are telling me—make sure you beat Charlestown.  The folks in Charlestown are telling me—make sure you beat Gingerland”, he said laughing.

    Whatever the end result, St.Thomas’ looks ready to ‘burst a bubble’.
