BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOUR convicts, who over the past two weeks have been found guilty for various crimes at the Basseterre High Court, will know their fate on Monday (Mar. 28) when they will be sentenced by His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas.

Jermaul Jules, David Morton and Craig Bradshaw were all found guilty by a 12-member jury for their crimes while Talbert Warner decided not to waste the court’s time and plead guilty to his charge.

Jules was brought in guilty on March 3 on a robbery charge he committed on January 14, 2009. The prosecutor proved to the court that he did rob a couple from the United Kingdom who was visiting St. Kitts at the time and was staying at Rawlins Plantation Inn.

He robbed them of EC$400 and a BlackBerry phone.

At around midnight on the date of the incident, Jules was said to have entered Rogers’ room and, with a machete, threatened him and his wife and left the couple traumatised.

He was formally arrested and charged on January 18, 2009 after police were patrolling in St. Paul’s the day before and observed the accused outside his home with a bag in his hand.

The court was told that Jules had placed the bag near the front of his home and went back into the building. On his return, the officers grabbed him and he tried desperately to escape their grasp. However, a search of the bag revealed a cellular phone similar to the one reported stolen from the Rogers.

Jules is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years.

David Morton of lower Cayon, who was found guilty of raping of a 15-year-old girl, could receive a life sentence for the crime on Monday.

Morton’s case was the third and final rape case tried at the January Criminal Assizes and a 12-member jury unanimously found him guilty on March 2.

The trial began on Monday (Feb. 28) in which Morton was accused of raping the girl in the vicinity of Cayon Primary School at about 5:00 a.m. on June 27, 2009 while she was on her way home.

The case was first tried in the May 2010 Assizes and ended in a hung jury.

Craig Bradshaw was found guilty unanimously by a 12-member jury for committing unlawful carnal knowledge on a 13-year-old girl.
He is also facing a life sentence in prison.

The incident was said to have occurred at West Street, Basseterre sometime in July 2009 and the prosecution team, which was led by  Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, had called on four witnesses to support it claims.

Bradshaw, who was represented by Barrister-at-Law Marsha Henderson, chose to remain silent when asked to answer to the claims made by the prosecutor.

Former magistrate’s court bailiff Talbert Warner will not be sentenced for more than seven years after he pleaded guilty to larceny and embezzlement of EC$1,667 on March 5.

The St. Paul’s man chose not to waste the court’s time for the crime he committed while executing his duties as a bailiff in Basseterre on February 2, 2006.

He is being represented by defence counsel Angela Inniss.

Meanwhile, Keithly Griffin, a bus driver of Cayon who was recently found guilty of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 sometime in February 2009, will be sentenced on Thursday, March 31.

Griffin was represented by Senior Counsel Dr. Henry Browne.
