CHARLESTOWN Nevis, March 28th 2011 - It was one of the events that will serve as entertainment value for the many Triathletes who continue to arrive on Nevis for the major Triathlon event scheduled for April 2nd.

It was a horse race meet hosted by the Ministry of Tourism. Probably due to the fact that many of the spectators who viewed the cross channel swim earlier ion the day, did not return to Nevis until around 3pm, the crowd was not as huge as previously anticipated. However, there was no lack of excitement as the horses and Jockeys competed fiercely against each other.

The four card meet climaxed with the much anticipated clash between Felt Daniel’s ‘Dominquero’ and ‘William D Jr’ owned by William Dore and sons.

It looked destined for a close finish as Michael Semple and Jason Liburd rode neck and neck on the first leg but on the back stretch, the Puerto Rican born horse, slowly started to pull away.  As they climbed the hill heading to the finish line, it was obvious that ‘William D junior’ had given up the ghost. It was almost an anticlimax as Dominquero crossed the finish line quite a distance ahead.

Michael Semple was adjudged the jockey of the day for winning two of the four races.  The experienced Brem Liburd and Jason Liburd each won one race.

Here is a summary of the races:
