Three injured in taxi/truck collision on Island Main Road

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE employees of Vallie’s Tent Rental were hospitalised today (Mar. 28), following an accident involving a taxi and a truck on the Island Main Road in Boyd’s Village at about 11:00 a.m.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes observed a green mini bus (TA112) resting on its right side on the road facing east, with extensive damage to both sides and a shattered windscreen.

The truck (P3584), owned by Vallie’s Tent Rental Services, was seen parked on an empty plot of land, inches away from a resident’s fence, with a damaged front and missing windscreen.

According to the Head of Traffic Department, Inspector Cromwell Henry, the accident occurred while both vehicles were heading in the direction of Sandy Point.

He indicated that the taxi was driven by Javid Walwyn and the truck by Elcardo Jacobs, who were both unharmed. He however informed that three other individuals, who were seated in the rear of the truck, suffered injuries and were taken to the JNF Hospital.

A female resident of the area said she saw a TDC bus was heading west and immediately behind it was Vallie’s Tent Rental Services’ truck, which was closely followed by the green taxi.

She noted that the three vehicles were travelling at a very fast rate and, shortly after they had passed her, she heard a loud crashing sound. The resident said, “All a hear is badam bam, and immediately a realise that it had to be one or two a dem vehicle because dem bin travelling very fast.”

Another female resident said she was on her verandah, which is only a few yards from the Island Main Road, when she heard a loud explosion.

“I ran up the road and saw the driver of the taxi crawling out of the front passenger side window. I asked him if he was alright and he said yes. I then went towards the truck and saw three guys; one with a cut on his chin, one with some bruises on his hand and the other was holding the left side of his head with blood running down his face,” she added.

Also on arrival at the scene, this media house was informed that a unit from the Emergency Medical Services had already left with the three injured men for the hospital, but officers from the Traffic Department were conducting interviews with the two drivers.
