First Caribbean International Bank donates books to Tucker - Clarke Primary School

Press Release

BASSETERRE St Kitts, March 29th 2011 – FirstCaribbean International Bank has donated about six hundred books to the Tucker-Clarke Primary School.

At a brief presentation ceremony in the school’s library, on 18 March 2011, Country Manager for St Kitts and Nevis, Mr G Peter Edmunds stated that the bank was proud to encourage young persons to read, as reading was the key to learning. He noted that even in today’s world where youth were in tune with technology and had easy access to computers for research, learning, and play; reading was necessary to access the wealth of information available on the Internet.

Mr Edmunds congratulated the Tucker-Clarke Primary school for recognizing the importance of reading and for its efforts in upgrading the school library to make it a more inviting place to students. He thanked the school for giving the bank the opportunity to be part of the project, by also contributing towards the painting, the doors and the locks for the Library.

Education Officer, Mrs Urlene Bloice-Roberts thanked FirstCaribbean International Bank for the donation of books. She noted that the donation was quite fitting, since one of the objectives in the Ministry of Education’s White Paper on Education, was for every child in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis to be able to read. The donation of books from the FirstCaribbean International Bank would go a long way in achieving that objective.

Noting the importance or reading in developing imagination, creativity and learning, Mr Sylvester Charles, Principal of Tucker-Clarke Primary School stated that the vision for the school was for all children at the Tucker-Clarke Primary School to be able to read. The school had in place a number of reading programmes to address the reading needs of all students, and the addition of the new books to the library would support those programmes.

He thanked FirstCaribbean International Bank for coming forward to assist in the project and for the donation of books.

The contributions to the project were made under the FirstCaribbean International Bank’s Adopt-A-Cause Programme which seeks to draw public attention to worthy causes.
