BASSETERRE, ST. Kitts, March 30th 2011 (CUOPM) – Two Bills will be debated when the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly meets on Thursday.
The Duty Free Shops (Amendment) Bill, 2011 and The Saint Christopher (Electricity) Bill, 2011 will be introduced and given a first reading in the lawmaking body.
Minister of Health and Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs, the Hon. Marcella Liburd will introduce and have read a first time, The Pharmacy Bill, 2011.
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will pilot through all stages The Duty Free Shops (Amendment) Bill, 2011, while Minister of Public Works, Energy and Public Utilities, the Hon. Dr. earl Asim martin will move the Second Reading and lead off the debate on The Saint Christopher (Electricity Supply) Bill, 2011.
The St. Christopher (Electricity Supply) Bill, 2011 provides for the supply of electricity in the island of St. Kitts to allow for the privatisation of electricity services and for related matters.
The 29-page legislation provides among other matters the appointment of a Public Utilities Commission, the granting of a license to supply by wind or photovoltaic generation to secure regular and efficient supply of electricity, the safety of the public from personal injury or fire.
An amendment to the Duty Free Shops (Licensing and Taxation) (Amendment) Bill, 2011 seeks a minor amendment to Section 6 by replacing the expression “to visitors only” with the expression “duty free.”
