CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A tragic accident occurred yesterday afternoon (Mar. 30) on Nevis, which has left one man dead and two others seriously wounded in the Alexandra Hospital.

Dead is Ricky Liburd (27) of Clay Ghaut, Gingerland and the injured persons are seven-year-old Imani Lawrence of Prospect Village and McKinnon Claxton (24) of Bath Village.

According to reports reaching SKNVibes, the accident occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on the Long Point Road in the vicinity of a dirt road that leads to Tropical Ice Farms.

This publication learned that a RAV4 (P6416), driven by Liburd and in which Lawrence and Claxton were passengers, was travelling from Charlestown to Cherry Gardens. However, while on the Long Point Road, the driver lost control, ran off the road and collided with a concrete wall in a nearby drain.

It was also learnt that the impact caused Lawrence to be thrown from the vehicle while the other occupants were trapped within but were taken out by some passersby.

They were rushed to the Alexandra Hospital where Liburd was pronounced dead on arrival, while Lawrence suffered a broken left arm and multiple injuries to the head and other parts of the body. McKinnon is said to have suffered serious injuries to one of his knees.

This has been the first road fatality on Nevis for the year, and an officer from the Nevis Traffic Department is reminding drivers to observe the traffic laws, noting that “while speed thrills, it also kills”.
